Post-Pill Acne: What's the deal?

Updated: Jun 22, 2021

Female liberation you say?

More like a train-wreck on female abdomens for multiple generations to come. Starting, but not ending with our skin.

I’m sure you’ve heard a friend or two talk about wanting to get off the pill (due to one or two of MANY reasons you might decide to) but they just keep putting it off because they are worried about what might happen to their skin. AKA: post-pill acne doom.

WELL. Whilst this is absolutely a fair concern (trust me, I’ve been there), it is absolutely NOT a good reason to stay on because there ARE solutions out there to avoid your face going back to your 15 year old self (or worse-than for many people)

First, we must understand WHY this occurs. The truth is when we go on the pill it takes our hormones & skin back to a state before we hit puberty, so as a result, when we come off - our skin goes back to that of a pubescent teen, only this time with a vengeance PLUS an added bonus of toxin load on your liver from long-term daily intake of synthetic oestrogen & progesterone. GREAT 🤨

To add to this lovely little pile of problems, many oral contraceptives leave us with a damaged gut acting as a form of antibiotic & mucking with our microbiome (bacterial ecology). It is also common for women to end up with a spectrum of nutrient deficiencies from long term use of the pharmaceutical - particularly B vitamins, Vitamin A, Zinc & Magnesium ➡️➡️➡️ all of which we need for healthy skin.

There are many ways to prevent/treat post-pill acne and it takes a holistic multi-systemic approach. It sounds complicated but it’s really not that difficult once you get the right support; and certainly should not be your a reason to stay on the pill 🙅🏼‍♀️
